Just got home from the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker presentation, which was awesome by the way. Glad to see that DEANNA D. and ZACH B. could make it out. Tim Gallagher from Cornell Lab of Ornithology did a great job with the background info on the history and reported sightings over the years. At the end he highlighted the evidence he gathered while in Arkansas trying to find proof of their existance. Those interested can check out this website for more information, including several videos. Your computer needs Quicktime though in order to view the video.
Here is a photo of a spring peeper (Pseudacris crucifer) that has been singing loudly in local ponds and wetlands including the one I mentioned on Elm St. That pond should also be alive with lots of salamander and water insect activity soon too! Unfortunately, I was told that some people want to fill in that pond to build a housing development. Does anyone see a problem with this?

Tuesday VANESSA Q. and DANIELLE H. reported "frogs" in a small pond nearby. A trip tonight confirmed a very noisy hole of Spring Peepers on Elm St., just up the hill from the elementary school. I traveled Elm for quite a ways toward Cortland and found 3 populations total of peepers along the way. If your interested, check out that hole right before sunset on one of these warmer nights.

Alright....here is the first extra credit opportunity. Whoever can tell me what the main topic of the latest edition of Time Magazine is, will get an extra credit point. All you need to do is secretly write it on a small piece of scrap paper with your name and put it in my mailbox in the main office (my box is the bottom left one). This offer will expire by the end of the day tomorrow (Thursday).
Here is an interesting article, since we are doing body systems. The brain, of course, is a part of our nervous system:
Go to the "Read some news" link on the righthand side, click the science section and select the story: High IQ kids have distinct pattern of brain development

Great...looks like we got things working nicely and now I know where to go fishing this April. Here's something to think about. Last Thursday, GAGE B. was looking through our fish tank of nasty water and discovered some mosquito larvae that were living in there!! If anyone ever wants to come in and look through the stuff during Rec. or after school, just arrange it with me.
