Composting in the winter is hard work. Not only are those bacteria really slow at breaking down the scraps but the trips to the bins are COLD. Luckily JORDAN T. and LARRY S. are tough. Speaking of bacteria, tomorrow we will be jumping right into the bacteria/virus unit. Let's start off 2008 with some good grades. 3 weeks until the end of the marking quarter.

At home, the bin fills up, but then spring comes, rain comes and warm weather, and voila! Great dirt. I add grass clippings to help it all along.
Going to the compost bin isn't high on my kids' lists no matter what, but the gardener in me likes to see the new dirt! Let me know if you want plants to plant in your great dirt in the spring.
How about tomaotoes to then have in the cafeteria in the fall? Wouldn't that be coooooooooooooool?

Tyler,

No worries...you've been helping when you get a chance. We're all busy. Many of last year's kids don't even say hi to me anymore so I appreciate your help.

Ms. Bassette,

I'm looking forward to spring...as I'm sure you are too. We'll be using the compost for our new garden to supply the cafeteria. So far we plan on growing spinach, string beans, broccoli, squash, and maybe strawberries.

Jordan T is a very dedicated composter. She has most likely done the majority of the compost for all the students! Wat to go jordan!

Yes, Jordan puts in a lot of time to helping. I'm lucky to have such a "dedicated composter".

Thanks, Mr. Devoe. You have made me feel more worthwhile than a lot of other people in school. Thanks for being there for me when I needed someone to talk to.
